Addressing onboarding friction and support dependency for an online voting platform
About
BuildingBoard is a platform for HOAs and condo associations to manage meetings, voting, and documents, helping streamline communication and compliance.
My goal was to improve the experience for management companies by making it easier to reach quorum and collect votes during annual meetings.

Challenges and solutions
Challenge
Lack of clear onboarding leading to user dependence on support
When users first entered BuildingBoard, they often relied on customer support to set up their account and schedule their first meeting. This highlighted a lack of clear guidance and self-serve onboarding, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start.
Solution
Easy onboarding
To address this, I designed a simple onboarding flow that guides users through setup in a few easy steps. With minimal info, they’re ready to host their first meeting.
Challenge
Creating a trustworthy voting experience
Users were hesitant to adopt digital voting due to concerns about privacy and result integrity.
Solution
Visual confirmations
Introduced a step-by-step voting flow with visual confirmations, subtle microinteractions (e.g., checkmarks, timers), and feedback messages to build confidence. Included transparent vote receipts and a post-vote confirmation screen to reinforce trust.
Mobile design
Key measurements
12,450 monthly active users
246 average meetings per month
Redesigned a flexible utility billing software for municipalities
